The season is a couple of weeks late due to the cold, wet spring, said Shelley Page of the New York Apple Association in Rochester. Still, some 25 million bushels of apples are predicted for New York state this year.
Locally, McIntosh and Delicious are popular, so are Macouns. If you enjoy a particular variety, it's easy to stick with it. But if you like experimenting, Page urges trying Ginger Golds, and if you can't find them, try Jonagolds.
